What Is Long Sight - A Beginners Guide To Myperopia From The Laser Eye Surgeons

Myperorpia occurs when the focus point of the eye is behind the retina, this means that any close items appear blurry and out of focus. It is a surprisingly common condition with estimates that one quarter of the US population suffer from the condition.

It can occur from birth though often develops over time. Typically as people age and there eye sight gets worse they also develop some form of long sightedness. The condition can be hereditary and natural improvement is uncommon and rare.

There are three different classifications of Far Sighted-ness which are know as Simple hyperopia this is the most common form of the condition where natural deterioration or variation has lead to the shape of the eye causing the focus to fall behind the back of the retina. This type of hyperorpia requires no treatment other than to improve the vision.

Pathological hyperopia this occurs when the anatomy of the eye is beyond normal variance. This is often cause by an accident or some kind of disease with the eye altering the eyes shape and structure. Sometimes the Far sightedness symptoms can act as the symptom which leads to the diagnosis of the more serious problem.

Functional hyperopia the shape of the eye and its ability to focus is controlled by a number of muscles. Those suffering from any form of long sight put greater demand on these muscles to help them focus. Those suffering from functional hyperopia have lost control or have paralyzed use of these muscles.

There are usually two anatomical variations which are responsible for far sighted-ness, the eye being too short so that there is enough room for the eye to focus or the cornea is to flat meaning that the point at which the light converges is beyond the retina.

Fortunately for sufferers of far sighted-ness treatment is relative straight forward. Opticians are able to prescribe corrective glasses or contact lenses to improve the sufferers vision. This is done by using carefully shaped lenses which focus the light a little prior to entering the eye so that the image can focus on the retina.

Laser eye surgery can also quite effectively improve vision. Surgeons use medical lasers to reshape the cornea to what would be its normal shape ensuring the image focus correctly on the retina.
