Time Management
Very often we find ourselves wishing that there were more than 24 hours in a day because we have not achieved all that we set out to do on that day. Was it possible, to have managed our time more productively and accomplish much more than we did?
Although the term time management has been around for more than a hundred years, it represents a misnomer about what a person can do. If truth be said time cannot be managed, because time cannot be controlled; what we can do however, is manage ourselves and the use of our time. Time management is actually good self management where we learn the abilities to plan, delegate, organize and control efficiently and effectively for optimal use.
In order thus, to manage time and ourselves more efficiently we must find the obstacles that hinder our progress and apply essential techniques for time management
Crisis management
Crisis management is a form of management tactic used by good managers where precautions are taken to manage the crisis before it actually takes place.
External hindrances
Constant telephone calls and visitors dropping in frequently can disrupt your day, cause distractions and leave many things unachieved. Save time by avoiding unnecessary interruptions
Lack of objectives
Objectives and goals need to be set daily and not annually. Not knowing your priorities, deadlines and objectives can prove to be the biggest waster of all. Scheduling your work by setting a priority will prove to be an effective time management tip
Doing too much too soon
Many people feel the need to accomplish everything and thus attempt to do too much, not giving themselves enough time to complete tasks properly.
Ineffective delegation
Good delegation is considered a skill of a good manager. However, often, ineffective delegation leads to reduced productivity and low morale. If your staff can do the stuff as well as you can then delegate it. It will give you time to prioritize on other important tasks.
Desk Stress
A cluttered desk is the sign of a sick mind. The most effective and successful people work from clear desks.
Procrastination
Do not put off tasks that you can do today for later. Overcoming procrastination will help you to increase your active time and increase productivity.
Learn to say no
Most people will dump their work on to another if they can. Learn to say no if the same happens to you. Some over stressed people lack the skills to say no for the fear of upsetting people.
Meetings
It is widely acknowledged that about as much of a third of the time spent in meetings is wasted due to poor meeting management and lack of planning. Increase your self management levels and learn to plan better.

Plan, prioritize and adapt to changing needs
Seek solutions to problems with an aim to resolve them quickly and effectively
Time management or self management is not to achieve, but in order for you to be successful, you have to be committed to build time management techniques into your daily routine. The more time we spend planning our time and activities the more time we will have for those activities. Setting goals, prioritizing and eliminating time wasters on a daily basis will give you the extra time to spend on those people and activities most important to you.
