The Number 1 Killer of Women Are You At Risk?
February is American Heart month and Heart disease is the #1killer among women. This disease is the leading cause of death in the United States and the major cause of disability. The most common heart disease is coronary heart disease it often appears as a heart attack. In 2008 770,000 may have a coronary attack, 430,000 may have a recurrent attack. Every 26 seconds an American will have a coronary attack and about one every minute will die from one.
Other conditions can affect your heart such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, tobacco, secondhand smoke, arrhythmia heart failure, and peripheral artery disease (PAD). To prevent heart disease try changing your life style. Eat more lean meats with less skin, cut back on salt try to eat about 2,300mg of sodium per day less than 1,500 per day if you are at risk of high blood pressure. Cut back on beverages and foods that contain sugars, if you drink alcohol drink in moderation. Stay away from trans and saturated fats, go for low fat diary products, stay away from foods that is high in cholesterol, prepare foods with little salt and most importantly do some kind of physical activity.
Women count for 52.8 percent of deaths in 2004 450,000 died from heart disease. This disease dose not only affect older woman between the ages of 65 and older it also affects women 25-44 years of age.
